Unlocking the potential of every child

We are class 1C.  We have settled in to Year 1 really well.  We are one of 3 year one classes.  Our class teacher is Ms Ahmad; Miss Kibiti is our teaching assistant.  We have guided reading and phonics 4 times a week and enjoy reading stories together every day.  By the end of the year we will all be reading.  We practise our writing every day and are getting very good at using our sounds to write.  Our cursive writing skills are also very good.  In Maths we are counting and have been learning to add and subtract. We have learned actions to help us remember the adding, take away and equals sign.   We are using number lines and Numicon lots in Maths this term.  We thoroughly enjoy going to Forest School every Wednesday.  We are very good at working as a team and often build shelters and tents together.  We love being outdoors and are always very actively looking for worms and other bugs to observe.

We have P.E once a week and we also take part in after school clubs such as football, Didi dance and Sporty Tots.  Outings are an important part of the curriculum.  So far we have visited the Natural History Museum in conjunction with our topic about Dinosaurs.

Parents’ support is very important to us in Year 1; reading daily at home and supporting weekly homework; some parents even come in to school to read with children in class.  Parent helpers also support us by joining us to Forest school and on outings.

You can find out what we are doing each week on our class page.
