Unlocking the potential of every child

Welcome to Class 2A! We are the older classes in Key Stage 1; during the school year everyone will celebrate their 7th birthday. Class 2A’s class teachers are Miss Streeter and Mrs Geertsema; Mrs Rosatti is our teacher assistant.

A typical Year 2 day looks like this: Assembly, Phonics, English, Maths, Guided reading, Hand writing, Topic/RE/PE and a lovely story at the end of each day. By the end of Year 2 most of us will be able to write and read confidently and at some length. In maths we count and learn to add, subtract, multiply and divide with larger numbers using different strategies like using hundreds, tens and units; we work very hard at developing the quick recall of basic number facts that is the foundation of confident mathematics later on.

We have two PE sessions a week and the children can also take part in after school sports clubs like; Street dance, Multi sports, Movie club and Singing club. Trips are an important part of the curriculum; some are local and others are further away and we need to use public transport. They will always make our topic exciting and provide an opportunity to experience what we have been or will be learning.

Parents’ support is very important to us in Year 2; reading daily at home, supporting weekly homework and joining us on trips. You can find out what we are doing each week on our class page.
