RB class have a team of adults that are there to support, teach and care for the children. Mrs Elbrow and Mrs Friend are the class teachers, Ms Spencer is the Early Years Practitioner and Miss Wallace is the Teaching Assistant.
We teach our curriculum through a variety of topics, which include What Makes me Marvellous, Animals around the World, We’re going on a Journey, Racing Rockets, Shooting Stars and Fairy Dust, Down in the Garden and Commotion in the Ocean. To enhance the children’s learning we take the children on many trips including visits possibly to Maryon Wilson Park, B&Q to look at growing, a transport journey using the bus, ferry, DLR and watch the aeroplanes at the airport, Greenwich Observatory, Greenwich Peninsular Ecology Park and we are fortunate to have many visitors to the school to share different experiences.
We teach daily phonic lessons which enable the children to recognise the letter sounds and how to use these sounds to blend and segment words. We encourage the children to read and write sentences. The children have daily maths sessions where they are taught to count, add, subtract and learn to problem solve.
Throughout the year the children have the opportunity to attend many different after school clubs, which may include Arts and Crafts, Diddi-dance, Sporty Tots and Cold Cooking.
During the Reception year, we believe it’s vital for the children to access both the inside and outdoor environment. Children need to be both engaged and stimulated and this can be achieved from both the indoor and outdoor environment. This will also be achieved during our weekly visits to our Forest School area in Maryon Park (these begin later in the year).
In RB we believe that learning should be fun, exciting and vibrant, and allows the children to develop at their own pace along their learning journeys!
